In 2006 Green Drinks Annapolis started with just a few folks who were interested in networking events with environmentally minded people. Today its gatherings routinely draw 200 people.
In conjunction with the organization’s website, AnnapolisGreen.com, the group has provided the community with:
• Unbiased information about local environmental issues;
• Knowledge on how to live, work and play in an Earth-friendly manner;
• Promotion of buying local and eating organically;
• Support for volunteering with environmental organizations; and
• Calls to Action to let elected officials know how we feel about local environmental issues.
“Through our gatherings we’ve practiced what we preached by supporting the local economy and encouraging area restaurants and other businesses who’ve hosted us to Go Green,” says Lynne Forsman, founder of Green Drinks Annapolis. “We’ve held events at over 30 locations throughout the years. To all of our supporters, we say a great big thank you!”
Forsman attributes her success to the organization’s unique contribution to the community.
“We are the only social networking organization to provide a forum where people who are involved or interested in all facets of Earth-friendly living and working can literally be social and come together in person regularly to learn, share ideas, make connections, get to know one another, conduct business and, oh yeah… have fun,” she insists.
Looking to the future, the group is filing for non-profit status, she adds.
“As we enter into this new chapter, we will secure grant money and donations to expand our effect on our local our Green community,” Forsman notes. “This will allow us to help fledging Green companies get started, sponsor educational and entertaining (that is, fun) programs, provide a reference point for Green businesses, and share information in new and exciting ways.”
